I Looked into the Eyes of God
I looked into the eyes of God
And saw that they were green;
Not the leafy, living shade though, mind you,
But a sickly color, foul, unnerving, strange.
I looked into the eyes of God
And saw that he was crying,
Not in sadness, though,
But in anger. Instead of rain,
Hail dropped like small bombs
Exploding on the pavement.
I looked into the mouth of God
And saw that he was screaming,
And as two funnels formed above my head,
I felt his breath upon my skin
And when the thunder clapped,
I heard his voice
Proclaiming, "Try me."
But then after a time,
When the storm subsided,
And the clouds departed
I looked into his eyes once more
And saw that he was staring
Straight at me
And in his face I saw-
Perhaps-
The smallest sign of caring.
