Burning Down the Sky

Do you see the evening sun there, darling? It burns away the paper sky,

And when the sun has burned up the day,

The stars will come to burn the night away.

The world is made of paper, darling,

Except for water.

Water's made of glass.

See how we dust-formed living must

Sustain ourselves upon heated sand?

See the evening sun there.

It is burning down into sunset,

Faster than I can light a match,

Faster than you or I can even count our paychecks.

The sun is burning down.

Its flare will soon be gone,

So follow me onto the lake, darling.

Who says we can't walk on water?

Follow me across the glass till the sun consumes us

And we become stars,

Pale ashes fixed in the night sky.

Follow me darling.

The sun is burning down.

So let us live our best lives now.

Let's live them here. Today.
