Smoke Signs

the wild sun collapses into the Mississippi

as two carbon bodies collapse into themselves

two graduation robes are tossed into the forest

on the overlook

a girl in cut-off denim shorts

holding a bong

is no sibyl

but sees visions past compare

a boy in basketball shorts

knees scarred from praying

lives in another body when at home

boy and girl huddle close around the smoke

bare-kneed / they say prayers for the world dissolving

behind them

hundreds of sapling futures

grow thinly in air / the human body

mostly water

is lonely / lost / some unknown part of it

is crying out for help

as wildfires teach trees to live
